Human Rights Commissioner: Eleven civilians killed in Donbas this year

Since the beginning of 2020, 11 civilians have been killed in Donbas as a result of military actions of the Russian Federation. In total, since the beginning of the Russian aggression in Donbas, Ukraine has lost more than 13,000 citizens.

"Today, a resident of Zaitseve village in Donetsk region died in shelling of illegal armed formations. The victim was in the yard during the attack. The woman got numerous shrapnel wounds after a bomb hit a tree. She lived on a summer veranda of a house destroyed by previous shelling... Since the beginning of 2020, this is the 11th victim of shelling among the civilian population. In total, since the beginning of the Russian aggression in the east of the country, we have lost more than 13,000 citizens,” Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Liudmyla Denisova posted on Facebook.

Denisova stressed that the aggressor again violated the main human right - the right to life, enshrined in the Constitution of Ukraine and Article 2 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.

"By violating the Minsk agreements yet again, the Russian Federation shows the world its aggressive occupation policy and unwillingness to cease fire in eastern Ukraine, as a result of which civilians continue to die from enemy bullets," the Commissioner underscored.

She called on representatives of international humanitarian missions and human rights organizations to strongly condemn the aggressor's actions and pool efforts to make Russia abide by the Fourth Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War.
