Ukraine, Turkey sign agreement on cooperation in defense sector

Defense Minister of Ukraine Andriy Zahorodniuk and Minister of Finance and Treasury of the Republic of Turkey Berat Albayrak have signed an agreement on cooperation in the defense sector.

The Ukrainian defense minister wrote about this on his Facebook page.

“Today [February 3] together with the Minister of Finance and Treasury of the Republic of Turkey, Berat Albayrak, we have signed an agreement on cooperation in the defense sector. First of all, this is the expansion of Ukrainian-Turkish cooperation in the defense industry in the following areas: joint production of anti-tank weapons; repairs and operation of helicopters; supply of aircraft engines; cooperation in the field of counteraction to unmanned aerial systems; transport aviation and simulator systems," wrote Zahorodniuk.

According to the head of the Ukrainian defense department, close cooperation with Turkish partners will help increase Ukraine’s level of security on its southern border - in the Black Sea. In addition, it will improve the air defense capabilities of joint participation in NATO programs.

Zahorodniuk also noted that to implement the practical part of the provisions of the signed agreement, visits of the Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar to Ukraine and a delegation of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine to Turkey will take place.

As reported, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan paid an official visit to Ukraine on February 3.
