Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry: Canadian Operation UNIFIER proves its value

Canadian Operation UNIFIER, which ensures efficient training of the Ukrainian military, proves its value.

“Operation UNIFIER has proved its value and has ensured high-quality training of about 14,000 Ukrainian servicepersons. Feedback from both the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Guard is very positive. So our main request is to continue the operation but it has already been fulfilled,” Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Vasyl Bodnar said in an interview with Ukrinform.

He added that a deputy foreign minister of Canada would visit Ukraine this week and "will come to see the mission's members and discuss possible changes."

"For our part, I can say that the request to change the format of the operation has come from neither the Armed Forces nor the National Guard," the diplomat said.

Approximately 200 Canadian Armed Forces personnel have been training Ukrainian military and members of law enforcement agencies since 2015 within the framework of Operation UNIFIER. Last year, the Government of Canada led by Justin Trudeau expanded the mission's mandate to the entire territory of Ukraine and extended it until March 2022.
