Ukraine and UK set priorities for defense cooperation

Ukrainian Defense Minister Andriy Zahorodniuk and a British delegation led by Secretary of State for Defense Ben Wallace discussed promising areas of cooperation in the defense sector.

The meeting took place in Kyiv on Monday evening, September 23, the press service of the Defense Ministry reported.

During the meeting, Zahorodniuk stressed the Defense Ministry’s unchanged course regarding Euro-Atlantic integration. He informed his colleagues about the current state as well as the priorities for further reform of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In this context, the minister determined a number of promising areas of cooperation between the defense ministries of the two countries.

"In particular, the parties identified the reform of education, personnel training, reforming of the Defense Ministry and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, cooperation in the military-technical sector and the introduction of new technologies as priorities for further cooperation," the statement says.

During the meeting, the parties also talked about the current security situation in the region, the hybrid challenges and threats facing Ukraine and the UK.

Zagorodniuk thanked his British colleagues for their clear position on supporting Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian aggression, as well as the significant contribution of Great Britain to the reform, training of personnel and strengthening of the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The British side reaffirmed the invariability of its position on supporting the territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine, as well as its readiness to further increase cooperation between the defense ministries of the two countries.
