Parliament passes law on military standards

The Verkhovna Rada has adopted a law introducing amendments to certain laws of Ukraine regarding military standards.

A total of 229 people's deputies voted for the law at a parliament meeting on Thursday, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"It supplements the law on Ukraine's defense with new terms: military standardization, a military standard, a NATO standard and a standard in the sphere of defense of a NATO member state, as well as clauses on empowering the Defense Ministry to ensure normative and legal regulation in the field of military standardization and determine a military standardization body," the first deputy head of the People's Front faction, Andriy Teteruk, said while presenting the bill.

The MP said that according to the law, the Defense Ministry will apply national standards directly, by referring to them in other documents, as well as on a voluntary basis, unless their mandatory application is established by regulatory legal acts.
