Canada wants to expand training of Ukrainian military personnel

The Canadian Armed Forces aim to scale up training up to the higher command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"Six rotations ago, we started from group training, and now we are trying to achieve a more institutional and lasting effect. Thus, the involvement of the senior commanders of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be the next step," Vincent Gagnon, the Sergeant Major of the Canadian training mission in Ukraine, Operation UNIFIER, said in an interview with Ukrinform.

Ukrainians, he noted, are always glad to meet Canadian instructors, wherever they come. "We have travelled across the country openly, wearing a military uniform and we have been welcomed very positively everywhere: in western Ukraine, in Kyiv, or in other regions," the Canadian Sergeant Major said.

As part of the Operation UNIFIER, about 200 Canadian servicepersons have conducted training for Ukrainian military personnel and law enforcement officials since 2015. Over four past years, more than 10,000 Ukrainian defenders have undergone Canadian training. In parallel with UNIFIER, Canada gives advice to Ukraine on the reform of the Ministry of Defense.
