President of Ukraine wants to declassify part of defense order

The President of Ukraine demands to ensure the widespread use of competitive procedures in defense procurement.

"We must initiate amendments to the legislative acts to avoid excessive classification of information about the state defense order," President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said during a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine on Thursday, the press service of the Head of State reports.

According to him, this issue was discussed with the Minister of Defense and the Chief of the Security Service. “Of course, the purchase of old, mainly Soviet weapons, spare parts and munitions may also be more transparent,” he added.

The President also demands to ensure the widespread use of competitive procurement procedures. Petro Poroshenko noted that the legislative acts entitled the Ministry of Defense to carry out these procurements independently.

"At the same time, the information about the latest developments, in particular, in the missile technology and modern information technologies, will be further protected by the state," the Head of State emphasized.
