Muzhenko: Escalation in Donbas possible on election day

Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Viktor Muzhenko has said he does not rule out possible escalation of the situation in Donetsk and Luhansk regions on the election day - March 31.

He stated this during a meeting with representatives of the military-diplomatic corps accredited in Ukraine, when asked by an Ukrinform correspondent about possible military provocations of occupant forces during the pre-election period.

“Situation analysis and the escalation of hostilities in the East [of Ukraine] suggest that the activity of Russian occupation forces is rising before the weekend, especially before public holidays. Therefore, I think that relevant provocations are possible on March 31 as well," Muzhenko said.

As reported, the presidential election campaign started on December 31, 2018. On February 8, the CEC completed the process of registration for the post of head of state in Ukraine's presidential election. A total of 44 presidential candidates were registered.
