Ukraine 39th in ranking of world's most powerful countries

Ukraine has been placed 39th in the international ranking of the world's 80 most powerful countries.

The rating, compiled by U.S. News, BAV Group, marketing communications company VMLY&R and the University of Pennsylvania, has been published on the official website of U.S. News.

"Ukraine, a nation whose history has experienced long periods of occupation from other countries, today wrestles between war and peace, as well as between corruption and reform. The nation borders the Black and Azov seas to the south and abuts several Eastern European nations, including Russia," reads a short report about Ukraine.

According to the study, when calculating the general index, account was taken of the economic and political influence of the country, participation in international unions, as well as the strength of the military potential of the country. The last category brought a fairly high overall score to the Ukrainian state.

The top ten, according to the rating, includes the United States, Russia, China, Germany, Britain, France, Japan, Israel, Saudi Arabia, and South Korea. Lithuania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Latvia, and Estonia are at the bottom of the ranking.

A survey asked more than 20,000 people from four regions to associate 80 countries with specific attributes.
