Poroshenko: Armed Forces to receive additional powers but only in event of war

President Petro Poroshenko has stated that the introduction of martial law gives the military additional powers but only in the event of war.

He stated this in an interview with Ukrainian TV Channels on Tuesday evening, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

“The threats Ukraine currently is facing need the unity of the Ukrainian people with the Ukrainian Armed Forces. And so that a warrior can protect us, he should feel support not only in words, not only from television, although it is also extremely important, but he should feel financial, budgetary, parliamentary, political support, and finally he should be protected by law. And martial law gives protection to a Ukrainian warrior, and nobody thought about that, it gives additional powers but only in the event of war," Poroshenko said.

As reported, the Verkhovna Rada on November 26 adopted the law approving a presidential decree on the introduction of martial law for 30 days in ten regions of Ukraine because of the Russian aggression against the Ukrainian navy ships in the Sea of Azov.
