Groysman: State budget envisages 5.38% of GDP for defense and security

Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman has said that the state budget for 2019 envisages 5.38% of the country’s GDP for the defense and security sector.

"According to the national legislation, the budget adopted today envisages 5.38% of GDP for security and defense. In terms of distribution, according to the national legislation, the distribution is carried out by the National Security and Defense Council. The total amount is sufficient,” Groysman said during the Government Question Hour meeting held in Parliament today, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

He added that the Government is taking needed measures so that to increase the funding reserve for the Armed Forces.

As reported, the bill on the state budget for 2019 was approved by the Verkhovna Rada in the early morning on November 23.

Expenditures for improving the defense and security of the state in 2019 are projected at UAH 211.9 billion (including UAH 5 billion in state guarantees).
