USUBC president: American defense enterprises ready for broader cooperation with Ukraine

The American defense industry enterprises are ready to provide Ukraine with defensive armament and services both on land and on the sea through the U.S. Department of Defense.

The security and defense cooperation between the countries now focuses mainly on the supply of ground systems, President of the US-Ukraine Business Council, Morgan Williams said in a commentary to an Ukrinform correspondent during a press conference in Washington.

In this regard, Williams mentioned the supply of 80 Humvee vehicles to Ukraine. "It is only the beginning. We expect broader cooperation [between the defense ministries of Ukraine and the United States] with the participation of the American private defense industry enterprises," the USUBC president emphasized.

He also recalled the transfer of two patrol boats of the U.S. Coast Guard to Ukraine, which became possible due to a direct contract between the defense ministers of the two countries.

"In our opinion, there is also a need for much closer cooperation [with Ukraine] in maritime security amid the situation in the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea," Williams stressed.

He also expressed hope for the establishment of greater cooperation between the government and defense industry enterprises in Ukraine.

In the current settings, Ukraine needs more defensive capabilities to deter Russian aggression in the region, the USUBC president noted.
