President signs law on military greeting 'Glory to Ukraine'

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed the law introducing a new salute "Glory to Ukraine! Glory to Heroes!" in the Armed Forces and the National Police.

He stated this at a meeting with the commanders of the brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the National Guard and the State Border Guard Service as part of his working visit to Khmelnytsky region on Thursday, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"The parliament supported the president's proposal, passed the law and I signed it. It concerns the amendment to the military charters on military greetings. 'Glory to Ukraine' is today absolutely natural for every Ukrainian soldier and for every Ukrainian citizen," Poroshenko said.

The Verkhovna Rada on October 4 adopted as a whole the bill on the introduction of a new salute "Glory to Ukraine! Glory to Heroes!" in the Armed Forces and the National Police instead of Soviet-style greetings "Hello, comrades!" and "We wish you good health!"
