Parliament speaker signs law on salute 'Glory to Ukraine' in army and police

Verkhovna Rada Chairman Andriy Parubiy has signed the law introducing a new salute "Glory to Ukraine! Glory to Heroes!" in the Armed Forces and the National Police instead of Soviet-style greetings "Hello, comrades!" and "We wish you good health!"

"I have signed the law approved by the Verkhovna Rada regarding amendments to the statutes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (No. 9036) on the introduction of a military greeting 'Glory to Ukraine! Glory to Heroes!' I am sure this is a restoration of historical justice! We have returned our traditional greetings to the Ukrainian army!" he wrote on Twitter.

After signing by the speaker, the law will be sent for consideration by President Petro Poroshenko.

According to lawmakers, the adoption of this law will make it possible to increase the prestige of military service and the image of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in society, regulate relations between servicemen and introduce new traditions in the Ukrainian army.

On September 3, President Petro Poroshenko tabled in the Verkhovna Rada the bill No. 9036 on amendments to the statutes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which envisages the introduction of a new salute in the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
