U.S. House of Representatives approves $250 mln in security assistance to Ukraine

The House of Representatives of the U.S. Congress has approved the Pentagon's draft defense budget for 2019, which foresees an increase in security assistance to Ukraine to $250 million, Ukraine's Embassy in the United States has reported.

"The House of Representatives has approved the draft National Defense Authorization Act for 2019, previously agreed with the Senate, which foresees $250 million for security assistance to Ukraine. This budget exceeds by $50 million the 2018 budget for respective programs on support for our state," the report says.

According to the bill, the funds are allocated for military exercises, the provision of military equipment, lethal weapons and logistics support, replacement of weapons or military goods supplied earlier. The list of types of assistance also includes intelligence support for Ukraine's armed and security forces.

To come into force, the National Defense Authorization Act for 2019 must be signed by the U.S. president, the embassy added.

The United States Senate approved the Pentagon's draft defense budget for 2019 on September 19.
