Ukrainian Defence Minister Poltorak, British Defence Secretary Williamson discuss assistance to Ukrainian army

Ukrainian Defence Minister Stepan Poltorak and British Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson discussed provision of assistance to the Ukrainian naval forces in the sea coast protection.

"At the meeting, we discussed a very important issue related to providing assistance in increasing the efficiency and capacity of the Ukrainian naval forces in protection and defense of the sea coast," Poltorak told journalists at a briefing on Monday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

The minister also said that the issues related to the reform of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in particular, the continuation of training of Ukrainian military experts, had been discussed.

In addition, the parties touched upon the establishment of technical cooperation between the defence industry complexes, strengthening of advisory assistance to develop the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in matters of management system and help in reforming the military education system.

In turn, Williamson noted that the negotiations were very productive. He stressed that the British delegation had arrived in Kyiv to demonstrate solidarity with Ukrainian friends.

For already three years, British troops have been assisting Ukrainians in protecting their territory having trained more than 9,500 troops in various spheres: from saving lives and providing medical care to developing professional skills.

"We adhere to our commitments and will stay with you as long as danger exists, helping you restore peace. We will not allow ruining our common values. Your security is the security of the United Kingdom," Williamson emphasized.
