Austria’s Chancellor calls on parties to observe 'school truce' in Donbas

Austria’s Chancellor Sebastian Kurz welcomed a new ceasefire agreement in Donbas in connection with the start of a new school year and called on the parties to observe it.

In a post on his Facebook page, he wrote: “I am glad that a school truce ceasefire has been reached in eastern Ukraine and I call on the parties to observe it and continue working on the implementation of the Minsk agreement.”

The politician also stressed that the OSCE is carrying out an important work, which Austria strongly supports.

As reported, the Trilateral Contact Group on the settlement of the conflict in Donbas at its meeting in Minsk of August 22 agreed on a new ceasefire regime - the so-called school truce starting at 00:01 a.m. on August 29.

At the same time, OSCE SMM Principal Deputy Chief Monitor Alexander Hug reported  that “since 00:01 SMM registered more than 70 ceasefire violations”.
