Oleksandr Turchynov, Philip Barton speak about Russian aggression in eastern Ukraine

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov has met with the Director General, Consular and Security at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Philip Barton.

The sides discussed topical issues in the security and defense sector of Ukraine and Russian aggression in eastern Ukraine, according to the website of Oleksandr Turchynov.

"Despite another ceasefire agreement, Russian-backed militants continue to shell our territories," Turchynov said.

At the same time, he notes that despite Russia’s ongoing aggression, the reform of the security and defense sector does not stop, as evidenced by the Law on National Security of Ukraine, which was signed by the Ukrainian president on July 5.

"This law is an important step for us towards European and Euro-Atlantic integration," the NSDC’s secretary emphasized.

The sides also discussed promising areas of military and technical cooperation between Ukraine and Great Britain.

In addition, the parties discussed the need to continue sanctions against Russia and the negative impact of the construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

In turn, Barton congratulated Turchynov on the approval and signing of the law "On National Security of Ukraine."

"Britain supports positive changes in the security and defense sector of your country and is ready to help reform Ukraine in the future," Barton assured.
