Parliament passes law on national security

The Verkhovna Rada on Thursday, June 21, approved the draft law on the national security of Ukraine.

A total of 248 MPs voted for draft law No.8069 at second reading and in a whole, with at least 226 votes required to make a decision, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

The draft law regulates the fundamentals and principles of state policy in the field of national security and defense, taking into account the acquisition of membership in the EU and NATO, the mechanisms for improving democratic civilian control over the security and defense sector, the system of management of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, in particular, the division of tasks, functions, powers, responsibilities and accountability of the management of the Defense Ministry and the Armed Forces etc.

As Ukrinform reported, the Verkhovna Rada on April 5 approved the bill on the national security of Ukraine at first reading, which was submitted by the President of Ukraine on February 28.
