General Staff: Foreign instructors have trained thousands of Ukrainian soldiers

American military instructors have trained 11 battalions in Ukraine, while the instructors from Canada and the UK have trained 6,000 and 8,000 more Ukrainian soldiers, respectively.

Representative of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Hennady Kovalenko said this at a briefing in Kyiv, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"The training is carried out within the framework of the committee [Multinational Joint Coordination Committee on Military Cooperation and Defence Reform]. The training (mainly of battalions) is held at the Yavoriv International Peacekeeping and Security Center. In addition, the Canadian instructors drill Ukrainian soldiers within the framework of the Operation UNIFIER, while British instructors train our servicemen within the Operation Orbital. The Americans have trained 11 battalions, more than 6,000 servicemen have been trained by Canadians, about 8,000 servicemen have been drilled by the British instructors," he said.

The General Staff representative noted that Ukraine needed the national training centers: "The ultimate goal is to have our own instructors who would conduct training according to NATO standards."
