U.S. House of Representatives approves $250 mln in security assistance to Ukraine

The U.S. House of Representatives has approved the allocation of $250 million in security assistance to Ukraine within the framework of the 2019 National Defense Authorization Act.

The act was adopted on Thursday, the Ukrainian Embassy in the United States reports.

"The sum, which is proposed to be allocated [as part of the defense act] to assist Ukraine in security field, including by provision of defensive weapons, is set at $250 million, which is $100 million more than the House of Representatives proposed to allocate in 2018 fiscal year," the statement reads.

It is noted that the act includes the main provisions of the draft law on cybersecurity cooperation with Ukraine. In particular, they stipulate the assistance to Ukraine in strengthening its capabilities to protect itself against cyber attacks, ensuring security of computer networks of public authorities, reducing dependence on Russian information and communication technologies, promoting participation in information exchange programs.
