Nayev, Kaljulaid discuss situation in Donbas

Ukraine's Joint Forces Commander, Lieutenant-General Serhiy Nayev has held an official working meeting with President of the Republic of Estonia Kersti Kaljulaid, during which the topical issues of Ukrainian-Estonian military cooperation were discussed.

This is reported by the press center of the Joint Forces Operation.

"The commander of the Joint Forces and the Estonian president discussed topical issues of Ukrainian-Estonian cooperation in the military sector. Lieutenant-General Serhiy Nayev informed Kersti Kaljulaid about the current situation in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, the ways of implementing humanitarian measures to ensure the safety of civilians and improve the social sphere," the report reads.

Nayev also noted that Russian-backed forces regularly shelled the populated areas, grossly violating the norms of international humanitarian law.

"The Joint Forces protect the civilian population and take all possible measures to ensure the safety of citizens," he said.

In turn, Kersti Kaljulaid expressed support for Ukrainian servicemen in their struggle for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of their country.

It is noted that Estonia's assistance in the economic, technical and humanitarian sectors exceeds 10 million euros, and Kersti Kaljulaid has become the first head of a foreign state who visited Donbas and the line of demarcation.

After the meeting with the commander of the Joint Forces, the Estonian president will meet with Ukrainian soldiers, displaced persons and representatives of humanitarian organizations.
