Sweden ready to participate in UN peacekeeping mission in Donbas

Sweden is ready to participate in the peacekeeping mission in Donbas, if the UN Security Council approves an appropriate decision.

Swedish Defence Minister Peter Hultqvist stated this at a joint press conference with Ukrainian Defence Minister Stepan Poltorak in Kyiv on Monday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"If the UN Security Council approves an appropriate decision, Sweden will consider the possibility of participating in the peacekeeping mission," he said.

Stability in Ukraine is very important for the Baltic countries, Hultqvist emphasized.

As the Swedish Defence Minister noted, the peacekeeping mission should be created in accordance with the international norms.

The Minister also said that Sweden argued against any "frozen conflicts."

As reported, Finland and Belarus earlier expressed their willingness to join the UN peacekeeping mission in Donbas.
