Department of State approves supply of Javelin missile systems to Ukraine for $47 mln

The U.S. Department of State has approved the decision to supply the Javelin anti-tank missile systems to Ukraine for $47 million, the Pentagon reported on Thursday, March 1.

"The Javelin system will help Ukraine build its long-term defense capacity to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity in order to meet its national defense requirements," reads the report.

It specifies that the issue concerns the purchase by Ukraine of 210 missiles and 37 Javelin command launch units. Also included are basic skill trainers, U.S. government and contractor technical assistance, transportation, training and other related elements of logistics and program support.

According to the report, the proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region.
