OSCE SMM recorded at least 401,000 ceasefire violations in 2017 – Hug

Last year, the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission recorded at least 401,000 violations of the ceasefire regime.

Principal Deputy Chief Monitor of the OSCE SMM to Ukraine Alexander Hug said this during a briefing at the SMM office in Severodonetsk.

"In 2017, the OSCE SMM recorded at least 401,000 ceasefire violations. We also recorded more than 4,000 instances of weapon violations along withdrawal lines. Over the past year, the SMM carried out about 25,000 patrol works on both sides of the contact line," he said.

In addition, Hug reported that last year the SMM's observers recorded facts of 479 civilian casualties (this number includes both dead and wounded people). This year, they confirmed information about 18 victims, including children.
