Number of explosions in Donbas decreased by 80% - OSCE

For the period from January 26 to February 2, the OSCE SMM recorded a decrease in the number of ceasefire violations by 25% and in the number of explosions by 80% compared to the previous corresponding period.

Principal Deputy Chief Monitor of the OSCE SMM Alexander Hug said this at a press briefing on Friday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"The number of violations of the ceasefire regime has decreased by 25% compared to the previous period. The daily number of the ceasefire violations fluctuated from 200 to 1,000 cases. The Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) also recorded 80% less explosions – according to estimates, from the use of weapons, which should have been withdrawn in accordance with the Minsk agreements," Hug said.

According to him, in total, the SMM recorded 33 cases of using such weapons, 28 cases of artillery weapon use and 5 cases with mortars against about 180 cases in the previous period. In addition, the OSCE SMM recorded more than a thousand cases of firing from unidentified weapons.

Speaking about casualties among the population, Hug said that the observers confirmed information that six civilians were injured in Dokuchaevsk (30km south of Donetsk, “DPR”-controlled) as a result of military operations.
