One Ukrainian soldier killed near Butivka coal mine - Motuzianyk

One Ukrainian soldier was killed, another five were wounded in hostilities in the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) zone in eastern Ukraine over the past day.

Ukrainian Defense Ministry's Spokesperson for ATO issues Oleksandr Motuzianyk said this at a press briefing on Wednesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"One soldier of the Ukrainian Armed Forces was killed in enemy attacks near Butivka coal mine, another two were shot by an enemy sniper near Zolote and Novoluhanske. One of them is in critical condition. Two soldiers of the Armed Forces were injured in enemy attacks near Luhansk. In addition, one serviceman of the National Guard was injured in the blast of an explosive device near the village of Vodiane,” Motuzianyk said.

He added that Russian-backed militants over the past day broke the New Year ceasefire and launched six attacks on the Ukrainian positions. The Ukrainian troops didn’t return fire.
