Russia brings troops into occupied Luhansk region to curb local mafia - Carpenter

Russia is bringing military columns into the territory of the occupied Luhansk region to establish order among the criminals who were allowed to govern in the self-proclaimed republics in the east of Ukraine.

Former U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia Mike Carpenter reported this on Twitter.

"Russian regular forces are entering Ukraine to clean up the mafia war among Moscow's proxies. That's what happens when you allow criminals to govern. Not a whole lot different from what we've seen in parts of the North Caucasus," he said.

Thus, Carpenter commented on reports of a military convoy coming from the territory of Russia to the occupied territory of the Luhansk region of Ukraine.

As reported, on November 21, Russia introduced troops into certain districts of Luhansk region, which, according to expert estimates, were sent to reinforce the units of the so-called 2nd army corps of the so-called "Luhansk People's Republic." It notes that in the conflict between "LPR leader" Igor Plotnitsky and "LPR Interior Minister" Igor Cornet, the Kremlin most likely bet on the latter.
