OSCE Secretary General says that talks on Donbas deadlocked

The negotiation process for the settlement of the conflict in Donbas is in a deadlock, and a "political signal" and synchronized progress on both sides are needed in order to get things moving and implement Minsk accords.

OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger said this at the Warsaw Security Forum on Wednesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"We are in a complete deadlock over the negotiation process to settle the situation in Donbas," Greminger said.

He has stressed that the Trilateral Contact Group on the peaceful settlement of the situation in the east of Ukraine is trying to take steps in different directions, but without a political signal from the "Normandy Four", the Trilateral Group and the OSCE CMM have limited room for maneuver.

He drew attention to the fact that the discussion of the issue concerning the deployment of a UN peacekeeping mission in Donbas continued. However, he expressed the opinion that this could "in some way distract attention from the main issue - the implementation of the Minsk agreements".
