Ukraine’s Defense Ministry foresees measures against Russia invasion threat

The Defense Ministry of Ukraine monitors the situation around the West-2017 Russia-Belarus military exercises and is aware of all the movements of Russian troops along the common border.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak said this to journalists, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"We are aware of all the movements of Russian troops along our border. We understand what threats may arise, and we will respond adequately to the threats that exist," the minister said.

He noted that the Ukrainian side realized the scale of threat posed by the Russia-Belarus exercises, and the General Staff had foreseen a number of activities to respond to those threats.

Poltorak specified there was a threat of invasion. He noted that "such a threat is not ruled out in general, not in particular case of these exercises."

The Ukrainian Defense Minister also stressed that the Ministry also monitored the situation with the deployment of Russian air defense systems on the border with Ukraine and Belarus.
