US to allocate $50 mln for Ukraine’s National Guard, Border Guard Service

The United States will allocate about $50 million to support the Ukraine’s National Guard and the State Border Guard Service.

This was announced by U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia Dr. Michael Carpenter during the meeting with Deputy Interior Minister of Ukraine Serhiy Yarovy, the Ministry’s press service reports.

The funds will be spent on purchase of equipment and management reform.

"We are proud of the efforts made for the development of the National Guard and the State Border Guard Service. After all, the assistance program to Ukraine was launched because of the National Guard. It was a pilot project. And it has been the evident progress. Therefore, we have decided to allocate funds for Ukraine’s security issues for 2016. These assistance projects should be continued," Carpenter said.
