Journalist Varfolomeeva freed from captivity

Journalist Maria Varfolomeeva has been released from the militant captivity.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko posted this on Twitter.

"Journalist Maria Varfolomeeva has been released. I am proud of her courage and strength of mind," the Head of State noted.

As a source said to Ukrinform, she was exchanged for two captives: a woman and a man, citizen of Russia Gorbunov, who fought on the side of the militants. The exchange occurred near the town of Shchastia, Luhansk region.

Varfolomeeva was captured by militants on January 9, 2015. The woman was accused of "spying" for the benefit of the Ukrainian army and being a member of the Right Sector organization.
