Law enforcement officers detain man linked to explosion at postal terminal in Kyiv
Counterintelligence and investigators from the Security Service of Ukraine, in cooperation with the National Police, have detained a man linked to an explosion at one of the Nova Post terminals in the Obolonskyi district of Kyiv on June 5.
According to Ukrinform, the SSU reported this.
The incident occurred in the morning while parcels were being unloaded. One of them detonated.
According to the investigation, the package contained fragmentation munitions, the shipment of which is prohibited, and the sender of the dangerous parcel was a 35-year-old native of the Donetsk region who currently resides in the Zaporizhzhia region.
“Disregarding safety rules, he sent illegally acquired weapons to an acquaintance in Kyiv,” the SSU noted.
SSU operatives, together with police officers, detained the suspect at his residence in the Zaporizhzhia region. During urgent searches, law enforcement officers found data on the contents of the package and its shipment on the detainee’s mobile phone.
SSU investigators informed the detainee that he was suspected of violating Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition, or explosive substances).
The Solomianskyi District Court of Kyiv ordered the suspect to be held in custody as a preventive measure.
The investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances.
As previously reported, police are investigating the circumstances of an explosion at a postal terminal in the Obolonskyi district of Kyiv, which resulted in one death and two injuries.
According to Nova Post, an explosion occurred at the sorting depot in Kyiv around 4:15 a.m., causing a fire that has since been extinguished.
