Man stabs police officer, military recruiter in Mykolaiv

Police in Mykolaiv have detained a man who stabbed a law enforcement officer and a serviceman from the Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center.

According to the Mykolaiv region police, the suspect attacked both men with a knife, striking them in the abdomen and leg, Ukrinform reports.

He has been detained in accordance with procedural law, and investigators are currently establishing all the circumstances of the incident.

The attack occurred on March 17, when a joint patrol of military recruiters and police officers was conducting notification measures and attempted to check the man's documents. He refused to comply and behaved aggressively.

"He inflicted knife wounds on a police officer and a serviceman of the Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center," police said.

Both victims were hospitalized with injuries.

Law enforcement officers quickly identified and detained the attacker under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The suspect is a 33-year-old local resident. The weapon used in the attack – a knife – has been seized.

Investigators have classified the incident under Article 348 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (attempt on the life of a law enforcement officer or serviceman). The suspect faces a prison sentence of 9 to 15 years or life imprisonment.
