Counterintelligence detains two Russian agents in Kharkiv region
The counterintelligence unit of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained two Russian agents who were providing the enemy with coordinates of Defense Forces positions in the Izium direction.
According to Ukrinform, the SBU reported this on its website.
The investigation established that the enemy accomplices were two residents of the Izium district of Kharkiv region, who acted separately but sent data to a single handler in Moscow. According to case materials, one of the agents is a 56-year-old gas compressor station worker who, under the guise of work trips, recorded geolocations of military facilities and relayed them to the FSB.
He also sent text messages to the handler describing the locations of key GCS transformers, which the Russians targeted for airstrikes.
The other agent is a 57-year-old driver who delivered food to frontline stores while simultaneously tracking the coordinates of Ukrainian defense positions.
Both individuals sent the collected data via messaging apps to the resident (leader) of the agent group. This person turned out to be their fellow villager, who during the temporary occupation of the Izium community went to Russia and works for the Russian intelligence service.
It was established that he had been recruited in Russia by an FSB officer, whose identity was also determined by SBU counterintelligence.
According to the plan set by the enemy intelligence officer, the resident was tasked with forming an agent group in the Izium district.
SBU officers preemptively exposed the offenders and documented their intelligence activities. Simultaneously, measures were taken to secure Defense Forces locations.
At the final stage of the special operation, both agents were detained at their places of residence.
During searches, smartphones used to coordinate their actions with the resident were seized.
SBU investigators informed the detainees of suspicion under Part 2, Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed by a group during martial law).
The offenders are in custody without the right to bail. They face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Comprehensive measures are ongoing to hold the senior agent of the group and its handler accountable.
As Ukrinform reported, the SBU previously detained a Russian agent who was directing missile and drone strikes on Chernivtsi and calling on Russians to continue attacks across the western region.
