Spy row in Moldova: MFA summons Russian ambassador

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova summoned Russia's Ambassador to Chisinau, Oleg Vasnetsov, after journalists published an investigation into surveillance efforts targeting the Moldovan government conducted from the roof of the Russian embassy in Chisinau.

That’s according to NewsMaker, Ukrinform reports.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with other competent institutions, analyzes the nature and scope of espionage activities, including those of the persons mentioned in the journalistic investigation. We consider absolutely unacceptable any espionage and foreign interference in the internal affairs of Moldova, which constitute a direct challenge and threat to the sovereignty and national security of our state," the ministry said in a statement published on July 25.

The Russian ambassador in Chisinau was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to explain the situation. "Depending on further developments, the authorities of Moldova will consider several response options," the ministry emphasized.
