NABU: Twenty top officials already prosecuted

Currently, 792 proceedings with 438 defendants, including top officials, are being investigated at the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine.

“There are 792 proceedings at NABU. To date, cases involving 438 defendants have already been tried and 245 cases have been brought to court,” Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine Artem Sytnyk said at the presentation of NABU and SAPO activity report for the second half of 2019.

In particular, two heads of state-owned enterprises, ten former members of Parliament of Ukraine, two former ministers and one former deputy minister, former first deputy secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, former first deputy governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, former first deputy head of the State Migration Service of Ukraine and former official of the Office of the President of Ukraine are suspected of committing corruption crimes. Sytnyk added that twenty top officials had been already prosecuted.

In addition, the investigations into embezzlement of $2.225 million at the State Enterprise “Spetstekhnoexport”, misappropriation of UAH 346.22 million at PJSC “Zaporizhiaoblenergo” and embezzlement of UAH 8.6 million at the State Enterprise “Tsentrgas” were completed in the second half of 2019.
