Court arrests deputy minister Hrymchak for two months

The Desniansky District Court in Chernihiv city granted the prosecutor’s motion for taking deputy minister for temporarily occupied territories Yuri Hrymchak into custody for 60 days.

The court ruled to arrest Hrymchak for 60-day period - until October 15 – with the right to post UAH 6 million bail, an Ukrinform correspondent reported from the courtroom.

Hrymchak’s wife said the family did not have money for posting such a bail.

As reported, the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine sent a motion to the Desniansky District Court in Chernihiv city to arrest deputy minister for temporarily occupied territories Yuri Hrymchak and his accomplice, Ihor Ovdiyenko, with the right to post a bail of UAH 12 million for both.

On August 14, the detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine together with the officers of the Prosecutor General's Office and the Security Service of Ukraine detained Deputy Minister for Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons Yuri Hrymchak and his assistant.

According to NABU, "the individuals demanded a $1.1 million bribe from an entrepreneur for allegedly assisting in decision-making by persons authorized to perform the functions of the state.” Hrymchak and his assistant were caught red-handed receiving part of the funds in the amount of $480,000.
