'DPR' militant jailed for ten years in Donetsk region

A militant of the "DPR" terrorist organization has been sentenced to ten years in prison in Donetsk region, the press service of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has reported.

"A militant of the 'DPR' terrorist organization has been convicted of crimes provided for in Part 1 of Article 258-3, Part 1 of Article 263, and Part 1 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The security service's officers found out that in February 2017, having succumbed to Russian propaganda, a Russian citizen illegally arrived in the temporarily occupied Donetsk, where he joined the Oplot terrorist group. As part of illegal armed units, the Russian, with arms in his hands, guarded terrorist-controlled military facilities, equipped the checkpoints of militants and patrolled them. In addition, he collected information about the location and number of forces and means of the anti-terrorist operation and participated in the fighting against Ukrainian troops," reads the statement.

In April 2017, Ukrainian servicemen detained the Russian in the village of Mykolaivka, Donetsk region.

The Ordzhonikidzevsky District Court of Mariupol sentenced the militant to ten years in prison and ordered the confiscation of his property.

The verdict has come into legal effect.
