Prosecutor's office suspects ex-diplomat of misappropriating UAH 1.5 mln

Kyiv Local Prosecutor's Office No. 10 has declared a former employee of Ukraine's Embassy in the Republic of South Africa a suspect in misappropriating state budget funds in the amount of UAH 1.5 million, the press service of the prosecutor's office has reported.

"It was established during a financial audit that while staying on a long-term business trip in 2016-2017, a first-category specialist of the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of South Africa, without any documentary justification, took possession of more than UAH 1.5 million in state budget funds intended for the functioning of this diplomatic institution," reads the report.

According to the results of the investigation, the former official was informed about the suspicion in committing a criminal offense stipulated in Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (large-scale misappropriation of someone else's property through abuse of office).

In addition, the local prosecutor's office filed a lawsuit on the recovery of the entire amount of damage from the suspect.
