Prosecutor General Lutsenko: Crime detection rate in Ukraine too low

Prosecutor General of Ukraine says that the highest criminal rate in Ukraine has been registered in Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv regions and the city of Kyiv.

The Prosecutor General stated this at a meeting dedicated the results of work of public prosecution agencies in 2016, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

“The most criminal regions of Ukraine are Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Kiev regions and the city of Kiev,” Lutsenko said.

He noted that the criminal situation across the country raises concerns. According to him, over 1 million 124 thousand criminal proceedings currently are at the Prosecutor General’s Office, which is much higher compared with the previous year.

At the same, the crime detection rate is very low, said Lutsenko.

“Last year it was less than 30% of the whole number of crimes,” he said.

In particular, the detection rate in the capital totaled only 16%, in Odessa - 20%, in Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia regions - 22%, in Zaporizhzhia region -24%,” said Lutsenko.
