Police: armed gang posing as state security officials steal UAH 2 mn in downtown Kyiv

Four men brandishing guns robbed a man of UAH 2 mn he was carrying in a bag in the Shevchenkivskiy District of Kyiv. 

Ukrinform learned the news from the Head of the Communications Department of the National Police in Kyiv, Oksana Blyshchik.

"In Kyiv, four men in black uniforms with the inscription Security Service of Ukraine, making threats with assault rifles, took the victim's bag, which contained more than UAH 2 mn. In response, the victim used a device for shooting rubber bullets. The attackers fled from the scene in a car that police found him near the scene of the crime," the statement said.

According to preliminary information, no-one was hurt as a result of the incident. A team of investigators from Shevchenkivsky District and Kyiv’s Main Police Department are at the scene. Police are searching for the attackers.

The statement said that the issue of opening of criminal proceedings under Art. 187 (Armed Robbery) of the Criminal Code of Ukraineis being looked into.
