Geran-2 drone found and secured near roadway in Kyiv’s Shevchenkivskyi district
In Kyiv, police seized the combat unit of a Russian “Geran-2” drone near a roadway in the Shevchenkivskyi district.
According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kyiv.
“Following the massive shelling of the Ukrainian capital carried out by the enemy last night, the 102 emergency hotline received a report regarding the discovery of an explosive device located near the roadway at one of the busy intersections in the center of the capital,” the statement reads.
Police officers arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area where the UAV debris with the warhead was located.
The investigative team documented yet another crime committed by the Russian Federation, and bomb disposal experts from the Kyiv Police Department seized the munition for subsequent controlled destruction at a specialized testing site.
“According to preliminary data, the debris found is the warhead of a ‘Geran-2’ type unmanned aerial vehicle that Russia launched into Ukrainian territory during a combined attack,” the police reported.
As reported, air defense forces shot down 50 missiles and nearly 600 drones used by the Russians to attack Ukraine starting on the evening of June 14. Kyiv was the main target of the strike.
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that two Russian drones deliberately targeted the part of Kyiv where the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and the “Mystetskyi Arsenal” are located.
