War update: 38 clashes on front line since morning
Since the start of the day, the Russian army has attacked Ukrainian defenders' positions 38 times. The enemy is applying the most pressure in the Huliaipole sector and showing increased activity in the Pokrovsk sector.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this on Facebook, publishing operational information as of 16:00 on Wednesday, May 20, according to Ukrinform.
Russian forces shelled the border settlements of Budky, Korenok, Novovasylivka, Bachivsk, Sopych, Rohizne, Ryzhivka, Potapivka, Iskryskivshchyna, and Ulanove in the Sumy region, as well as Khrinivka in the Chernihiv region. The enemy also carried out airstrikes near Pustohorod and Tovstodubove in the Sumy region.
In the Northern Slobozhanshchyna and Kursk sectors, three combat engagements took place. Russian forces launched one airstrike, dropped two guided aerial bombs, and carried out 38 shelling attacks, one of them involving multiple launch rocket systems.
In the Southern Slobozhanshchyna sector, the enemy launched one assault near Starytsia.
In the Kupiansk, Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, and Prydniprovsk sectors, the enemy conducted no active operations.
In the Lyman sector, Ukrainian defenders stopped three enemy attempts to advance near Drobysheve, Lyman, and Yampil.
In the Kostiantynivka sector, the invaders carried out five attacks near Kostiantynivka, Toretske, and Kucheriv Yar. Two combat engagements are ongoing.
In the Pokrovsk sector, since the beginning of the day, the invaders have attempted 10 times to push back Ukraine's Defense Forces near Rodynske, Hryshyne, Novooleksandrivka, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, and Molodetske. One combat engagement is still underway.
In the Oleksandrivka sector, the enemy launched four offensives near Oleksandrohrad and Kalynivske.
In the Huliaipole sector, Ukraine's Defense Forces repelled 15 enemy attacks toward Novozaporizhzhia, Dobropillia, Zaliznychne, Huliaipilske, Olenokostiantynivka, and Charivne. Four combat engagements are ongoing.
In the Orikhiv sector, the enemy carried out one offensive action near Shcherbaky.
No significant changes have occurred in other sectors, and no enemy attempts to advance were recorded.
As Ukrinform previously reported, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russia has five scenarios for expanding the war through northern Ukraine.
