Palisa says Russia lacks forces for provocation from Belarus

In order to carry out a provocation from the territory of Belarus, the Russians would need to assemble a grouping of forces, but due to the situation on the front line, they do not have such a capability.

Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Pavlo Palisa said this in an interview with 24 Kanal, Ukrinform reports.

“In my opinion, the Russians would only be able to carry out a more or less credible provocation from Belarus if they assembled a capable military grouping. But given their losses and the overall situation along the front line, I do not see such an opportunity at the moment,” Palisa said.

At the same time, he recalled the events of 2022, when Belarusian territory was used during Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

“As long as a regime loyal to Putin remains in Belarus, we will always view Belarus as a potential threat. We all remember the events before the full-scale invasion, when the leader of Belarus claimed the country would never attack Ukraine. We all remember the outcome. So, we take this threat into account and respond accordingly,” the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office stressed.

Earlier, Spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Andrii Demchenko said no movement of personnel or military equipment had been detected near Ukraine’s border on Belarusian territory, though the threat from Belarus remains real.
