Magyar announces renewed cooperation following talks with European Commission

Hungary's future prime minister, Péter Magyar, after technical meetings with representatives of the European Commission, announced that his government would cooperate with Brussels to unblock frozen funds for Hungary.

According to Ukrinform, he reported this on the social network X.

"During this round of talks, I made it clear that the TISZA government is beginning its work with unprecedented legitimacy and, at the same time, a strong sense of responsibility. I emphasized that the Hungarian people's decision represents a tremendous opportunity for both Hungary and Europe," he wrote.

Magyar also outlined his first steps as prime minister.

"At the beginning of the negotiations, I informed our partners of the TISZA Party's commitments to the Hungarian people: anti-corruption measures, Hungary's accession to the European Public Prosecutor's Office, and the restoration of the independence and freedom of the judiciary, the press, and higher education," he noted.

Magyar stressed that his government's task would be to unblock EU funds allocated to Hungary that had been frozen due to the policies of his predecessors.

"The consequences of the outgoing government's mistakes will not disappear overnight. But we are not looking for excuses — we are looking for solutions. We have taken the first steps in the right direction," he added.

Magyar also said that his third trip after taking the oath as prime minister would be to Brussels, where he plans to conclude a comprehensive agreement with EU institutions and leaders of member states to ensure Hungarian citizens and businesses gain access to EU funds as quickly as possible.

As reported by Ukrinform, the Tisza party led by Péter Magyar will hold 141 out of 199 seats in the Hungarian parliament.
