Ukraine’s air defenses intercept 667 targets during large-scale Russian attack

Ukraine’s air defense forces neutralized 19 Russian Kh-101 cruise missiles, eight Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles, four Iskander-K cruise missiles, and 636 drones between 7:00 on April 15 and 7:00 on April 16.

According to Ukrinform, the Ukrainian Air Force reported this on Telegram.

During this period, Russian forces carried out two waves of combined attacks against Ukraine using ground- and air-launched missiles, as well as strike drones.

In total, the Air Force’s radar units detected and tracked 703 aerial targets:

  • 19 Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles;
  • 20 Kh-101 cruise missiles;
  • five Iskander-K cruise missiles;
  • 659 drones, including Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas types, and other UAVs.

The air assault was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems, and mobile fire groups of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.

According to preliminary data as of 7:30on April 16, air defenses shot down or suppressed 667 targets:

  • 19 Kh-101 cruise missiles;
  • eight Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles;
  • four Iskander-K cruise missiles;
  • 636 drones.

Hits by 12 missiles and 20 strike drones were recorded at 26 locations, along with debris from intercepted targets falling at 25 locations. Information regarding one cruise missile is still being clarified.

The attack is ongoing, with several enemy drones still in the air.

As reported earlier, in Kyiv overnight on April 16, 48 people were injured and four were killed, including a child, as a result of a Russian strike.

In Odesa, seven people were killed and 12 others injured following the Russian attack.
