Drones target military-linked petrochemical site in Russia’s Bashkortostan
In the city of Sterlitamak in Bashkortostan – one of Russia’s key centers of chemical and petrochemical production – an attack targeting facilities associated with the production of components for military equipment has been reported.
According to Ukrinform, this was stated on Telegram by Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation under Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council.
“Sterlitamak in Bashkortostan is under attack. It is one of the centers of Russia’s chemical and petrochemical industry,” he said.
Kovalenko added that the city hosts enterprises supplying critical components for aviation and missile technology, including materials used in the production of explosives, propellants, and ammunition.
“For example, the Sterlitamak Petrochemical Plant is located there; it produces ionol, an additive used in aviation fuel and lubricants for military equipment,” Kovalenko specified.
He also emphasized that the chemical industry forms the backbone of warfare.
The head of Russia’s Republic of Bashkortostan, Radiy Khabirov, confirmed a UAV attack on an industrial zone in Sterlitamak. He claimed that “debris” fell on the premises of one of the enterprises, causing a fire.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, oil exports from Russia’s largest Black Sea port in Novorossiysk remain limited, as two of its largest terminals have not resumed loading following drone attacks last week.
