Nearly 700 Russian invaders eliminated by engineering munitions in January
In January, the work of the Engineering Troops of the Support Forces and engineering units of other branches of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including the Ground Forces, Unmanned Systems Forces, and Air Assault Forces, resulted in the elimination of nearly 700 invaders and the destruction of 110 weapons systems and pieces of military equipment.
This was reported to Ukrinform by Lieutenant Colonel Maksym Kravchuk, Head of the Communications Department of the Support Forces Command.
According to him, during January, approximately 660 invaders, 110 weapons systems and military vehicles, and 65 other targets were destroyed on mine-explosive barriers installed by all engineering units of the Ukrainian military.
Most of the strikes were carried out through remote mining using unmanned aerial vehicles, which ensures high effectiveness while minimizing risks to Ukrainian personnel, Kravchuk explained.
He emphasized that modern warfare is a war of technology. Remote mining units using drones and ground-based robotic systems block enemy advance routes and effectively strike enemy forces and equipment. Whereas sappers previously had to operate manually in dangerous areas, these risks have now been significantly reduced – unmanned systems allow missions to be carried out faster, more accurately, and far more safely.
Each instance of damage to enemy equipment and personnel is recorded in real time, and all confirmed targets are entered into the Delta situational awareness system, ensuring full data reliability.
Engineering troops continue to strengthen defensive capabilities, create new lines of engineering barriers, and inflict losses on the enemy in coordination with all units of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
“We are systematically expanding engineering barriers, actively using unmanned remote-mining systems. We operate both directly along the front line and deep within territory temporarily occupied by the enemy. This approach delivers clear results: during offensive operations, the enemy loses a significant amount of equipment and around a thousand personnel each month,” the Support Forces communications chief stressed.
As previously reported, since the beginning of 2026, military sappers of the Support Forces have cleared more than 150 hectares of frontline territory of explosive hazards.
