Law enforcement officers identify and formally charge Russian serviceman who killed unarmed AFU member in Sumy region

Law enforcement officers have identified and formally notified a serviceman of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation of suspicion for shooting and killing an unarmed member of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Sumy region.

According to Ukrinform, the Prosecutor General's Office stated this on Facebook.

On February 24, 2022, units of the 1st Tank Army of the Russian Armed Forces illegally crossed the border and entered the Sumy region.

Ukrainian forces struck enemy equipment, after which about 15 Russian invaders fled into a forested area near Okhtyrka.

During the pursuit, a Ukrainian serviceman, a rifle company commander, was ambushed and taken prisoner. He laid down his arms and did not resist. Despite this, a Russian soldier shot the unarmed captive three times with a VSS sniper rifle. The serviceman died at the scene. It has been established that the shots were fired by a captain, the deputy commander of the 1st Special Purpose Company of the reconnaissance battalion of the 96th Separate Reconnaissance Brigade of the Russian Federation.
